Wednesday, August 30th

Goals: To continue to build a sense of community.  To talk about failure and growth as it relates to learning!

Agenda:

We will watch this video regarding the spaghetti/marshmallow challenge.

Next, you will try the Spaghetti Challenge again with new teammates.  Then, we will discuss the differences between today and yesterday.  We will discuss failure and growth as it relates to learning!
 Questions for Reflection:
Was there a leader on your team? Who was it and who decided who the leader would be?
If you had no leader, do you think having designated someone a leader would have helped?
If you had a leader, how did he/she do? Of the leadership practices we have learned so far, which did your leader use?
How helpful was everyone on your team in challenging the process of building the tallest structure? Did anyone appear to be an expert?
Did any team members tune out of the activity — out of frustration with other members or for some other reason? What could you have done to keep all members of the group fully engaged?
Did you feel everyone's ideas were well received during the activity?
How did you feel as the time limit was approaching? Did pressure increase? If yes, was that helpful or not?
In retrospect, what could you have done better to enhance your ability to Challenge the Process?
Did you celebrate small wins? If yes, how did you do this?

Play-Doh Activity-Make a sculpture that represents you in some way.  You will tell the class your name, and I will ask you a question or two about your sculpture.  Don't worry!  It will take ten seconds!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Welcome!  I am so happy to be your teacher. We are going to have a great year.

Goals: Familiarize you with the schedule, agenda, and class procedures. To take some time to focus on our thoughts, goals, and feelings on our first day of school.
\
Agenda:

Seats-I will assign your seat when you come in. :)

Review the schedule for the week.  The first two days are single periods. I will explain the use of the agenda in my classroom, as well as my rule regarding cell phones.

Write a letter to me telling me three things I should know about you.  I will share an example
with you.  It can be as serious, funny, or a combination of both!  Have fun writing it!  I will be referring to these letters all year.

NEXT, we will participate in a team building exercise...THE SPAGHETTI/MARSHMALLOW CHALLENGE!
