Monday, November 6th and Tuesday, November 7th

Good Morning!  Today we will learn about Dos and Don'ts in Formal Writing.  We will try a groovy new Interactive Slide Show Tool called Peardeck to learn about these Dos and Don'ts.

You will look back at your first three paragraphs of your essay and make sure you :

  • Do NOT use personal pronouns like I, you, we (unless it's in a quote)
  • Include TAG and put title of story in quotation marks in FIRST paragraph
  • Have a clear thesis/theme statement as the last sentence of the FIRST paragraph
  • Do NOT use contractions like can't-Spell out the word
  • Quotes are blended properly/context is provided
  • Introduce each quote by giving the context. NO QUOTE BOMBING
  • At LEAST two sentences of commentary after each quote
  • Avoid vague words like stuff, nice, things, very, and really
  • Write about the story in the PRESENT tense
  • Include page #s in parenthesis for quotes
  • THREE paragraphs/DOUBLE-SPACED
Work on our conclusions if you didn't finish

You will add Language Tools as an extension to help you edit your work.
Use the Find and Replace Tool to search for personal pronouns

Conference with teacher as needed

You may turn in your essay to Google Classroom when you are ready. However, make sure you have edited it carefully and followed all directions.
